In Poland, a deposit system is set to be implemented starting January 1, 2025. This initiative aims to stimulate the return of used metal canisters, plastic, and glass bottles. The decision will also increase the level of selective collection, leading to higher recycling rates and reduced environmental pollution.
Starting in 2025, the deposit system will apply to single-use plastic bottles up to 3 liters in volume, including packaging for water, juice, nectar, and milk. It will also cover reusable glass bottles up to 1.5 liters and metal cans up to 1 liter.
Consumers will be able to return the packaging to the store and receive their previously paid deposit back. A receipt will not be required for the return. The deposit system will only apply to packaging marked as “returnable.” For more details, visit gov.pl.
It is worth noting that the deposit amount for single-use plastic bottles and reusable glass bottles will be determined in a special regulation but will not exceed 2 zł.
