On December 27, 2024, a new government decree on the classification of business activities (Dziennik Ustaw) was published in the official publication. Now the PKD 2025 system includes new codes covering modern business areas, such as digital technologies, circular economy, and bioeconomy. Entrepreneurs will have two years to switch to the updated system and align their data with the new requirements.
The old PKD classification had been in place since 2007, and a lot has changed in the economy since then. Therefore, to ensure that statistics in Poland meet European Union standards, the classification needed to be updated.
Interestingly, specialists from the Central Statistical Office (Główny Urząd Statystyczny) reviewed the proposals of more than 170 business organizations to consider their opinions and recommendations when developing the new classification.
As of January this year, the new PKD codes have started to apply in all state registers, including REGON, the register of entrepreneurs (CEIDG), and the National Court Register (KRS). The classification of entities in statistical registers (BJS) has also been updated in line with their current activities.
Additionally, the changes have affected both the European Classification of Products by Activity (CPA) and the Polish Classification of Products and Services (PKWiU). As a result, the updates have impacted not only business activities but also products and related services. Read more about PKD 2025 here.
By the way, if you do not update your PKD codes within two years, the system will automatically convert your old codes to new ones. This will be done using special “transition keys” published in the annex to the new decree.
